It’s hard to admit mistakes, but here goes:

When I redid my website, I worked with one of my service providers. However, I tried to do a video myself, and the outcome? It looked home-made and unprofessional – not the image I’m trying to project. Lesson Learned? Outsource – work with a professional, preferably a connection through Karen Anderson, the Business Connector! I need to start practicing what I preach.

Did you see Allison Graham’s column this week in the LFP? She talks about working with people “You know, like and trust”. But she takes it one step further, in ensuring they’re competent and have the Right solution based on your needs. Check it out.

Next I attended the luncheon on January 31st where Premier McGuinty updated us on the economy. He then made the rounds and literally came to everyone’s table, met each of us and then took the time for photos. How did I luck out to be with all those men! Have a look.

We’re all familiar with the phrase “Pay it forward”, but how often do we practice it?

In December I met a new-to-London business owner that needed my help on several levels. As you know, I connect businesses with the right service provider. However, he needed some connections that I didn’t have in my portfolio for business services. Because I have a vast network of contacts, I did happen to know some quality, professional people that could help him, even though it wasn’t going to financially benefit me. He sent me this, “I am impressed with your list of contacts but more so with the speed you get involved and get results. You are surely to be a part of my business growth in the year of 2012.” Ehsan, Hotel Metro.

We talk about the ‘customer experience’ and how it makes you feel. I have to admit, that made me feel pretty good. Have you paid it forward lately?

TechAlliance is another membership that holds many events, worthwhile attending. They have a strong membership that focuses on the life sciences, technology and advanced manufacturing sectors of London. They encourage entrepreneurs to accelerate their growth and “get connected”, so it’s a natural fit for me as a Business Connector to attend their conferences, seminars and networking opportunities. I am pictured here at their annual Christmas event with colleague, Gerard Roy.

What’s your Achilles’ Heel and how do you manage it? I attended two Leadership speakers’ events in one day. At 7:30 a.m. we talked about identifying what our own Achilles’ Heel is. Mine, as a ‘solopreneur’ is not knowing at the end of the day, whether I’ve had a good or successful day or not. Drew Dudley, the evening speaker suggested we ask ourselves, “Have I created value for someone today? Absolutely! Now, at the end of the day, I think about all the lives I’ve touched and added value to. It works and really makes ME feel good! What’s your Achilles’ Heel and how do you manage it?

Remembrance Day causes us to stop and think about many things. It also reminds us to appreciate the good things in our lives.

I attended the Better Business Bureau’s Business Integrity Awards this week. The keynote speaker was Andy Spriet. Andy talked about some of his successes, but what really resonated with me and hit home was when he talked about ‘people’. He said he’s surrounded himself with really good people as his businesses grew. The words he used were “honesty, integrity, and morality”. I strive to have those kinds of relationships with the people in my life. I hope to be like Andy, when I grow up.

I am such a fan of the London Chamber of Commerce. The relationships I have developed from this membership have been invaluable. Getting involved with the different committees is not only a way of giving back to the community, it’s a great for personal and professional growth. These monthly networking events at different member locations are just another way of increasing awareness of our businesses. I can also been seen at many of the seminars and conferences they hold, knowing their topics will be of interest to London business owners. I am joined here in this picture with colleagues Kathleen Holland, myself, Chris Off and Julie Munday.

What a great day! This live event was hosted by Chick-A-Fil in Atlanta Georgia. More than 80,000 leaders from around the world gathered to be informed and inspired on how to better articulate and demonstrate the power of change through positive leadership. We were one of many remote locations watching the big screen webinar in London, Ontario. We listened to many great leaders: John Maxwell, Erin Gruwell, Tim Sanders, Seth Godin, Jason Young and Jeremie Kubicek. I was fortunate enough to attend with a few of my colleagues in this picture: Laurie Hawkins, Deb Shaver, myself, Allison Graham and Jen Denys. Can hardly wait for the next one!
